On Friday 11th January Kenley campus welcomed MP for Croydon South, Mr Chris Philp to our school.
He began his speech by recounting his career. Once graduating from Oxford he started a business and continued to become a successful entrepreneur, working in several companies. He first became an MP in 2015, as he realised that entrepreneurs were under-represented in Parliament.
Chris Philp then recounted one of his most significant achievements: After campaigning to the Chancellor about business rates in Purley, the Autumn Budget included an announcement that business rates for small to medium high street stores would be reduced by a third. He has also spent a lot of his past year pestering the transport secretary about delays with Southern Rail, and their services.
He then spoke about many topical issues including Brexit, Russia, religious freedoms along with several other topics, along with capably answering many questions about his career and opinions.
Finally, Chris Philp handed out many certificates to students that have displayed the OneSchool Skills and received citations, and just managed to squeeze in a quick tour of the school’s SDL hub.
